Donated Internet-ready computers are loaned on a long-term basis to low-income families with children at thirteen selected Miami-Dade County Public Schools of which five are designated Zone schools. Before the computers go home, parents are trained to use them and to provide supervision to their children.
In their classrooms, children learn computer skills and work on projects incorporating technology under the guidance of specially trained teachers. Teachers receive extensive training from expert mentor teachers on how best to incorporate computer use into their classrooms.
By becoming "computer literate," students gain skills that help them compete academically and in the job market. At the same time, parents acquire new, marketable skills.
Created and run by The Education Fund, Citibank FamilyTech is sponsored by the Citi Foundation, with additional support from Citibank Florida, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, The Ethel & W. George Kennedy Foundation, the Joseph H. and Florence A. Roblee Foundation and the Tiger Woods Foundation.
