The following are short descriptions of some of previous years' Citi Success Fund award-winning projects. These projects helped point the way toward success for students in our schools both today and in the future.
Other synopses of grants can be found in the Citi Success Fund Awards Booklet.
Student teams create video lessons on math topics specifically related to the FCAT. In the process, students research a math dilemma, write a script, and stage, film and edit their math lesson video. The end products are broadcast as instructional "infomercials" on the in-house television system.
Struggling readers use various strategies to practice the craft: read-alouds, choral reading, and recording children's books which are given to a day care facility.
Students research Miami's ethnic communities, visit them and then document what they learned through photo-essays which are published in a class book entitled, My Miami.
Combining math and language arts, students recreate the excitement of past math discoveries throughout history by bringing them to life as they would appear today in newscasts and newspapers.
