Cajanus cajan (Fabaceae)

  • Perennial woody shrub that can grows up to 13 feet. Most commonly grown in the subtropics and the tropics. A short-lived plant that has deep roots, thin green leaves, yellow flowers, and green fruit pods.
  • The seeds, seedpods, young shoots, and leaves are edible. Plant has been used for medicinal purposes including to sooth coughs, sores and wounds among other ailments. Nitrogen fixer used to amend soil.
  • Contains high amounts of protein, starch, calcium and other minerals.
  • Best in moist soil.
  • Full sun.
